Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey friends…..it’s Michelle back with a new post featuring a few (okay 6 lol) of the Metallic Embossing Powders, which are this weeks spotlight products. That means you can save 10% on them all right now! Every crafter needs some gorgeous metallic embossing powders in their crafty toolbox and today I am sharing 6 gorgeous powders from WOW! Let’s get started, shall we and I’ll show you how I created this fun Golden Smile all while mixing metallics!
A Golden Smile – Mixing Metallics
- Using the postage stamp die, cut from WOW! Superior Smooth White Cardstock. Using the coordinating block stencil, do some ink blending. I used Distress Inks in Uncharted Mariner and Seedless Preserves.
- Ensure that the ink blending is completely dry. I used the heat tool on the low setting to help the ink to dry. To check that it was fully dry, I sprinkled on some embossing powder. If none of it sticks to the ink blending, then you are good to go with the heat embossing. Also I went over it with an anti-static tool, just for extra security. You don’t normally need this for WOW’s powders, but when embossing over ink blending it’s always good to be extra sure.
- Next I added the co-ordinating Colouring Stencil to the Postage Stamp Die and using a foam ink blending tool dedicated for my embossing ink pad, I added embossing ink over the stencil. Remove the stencil and work quickly to add the powders before it dried.
- I added a different powder to each ink blended rectangle, being careful to only add it over each one. On the hearts I added Metallic Gold Rich, the small polka dots has Metallic Gold Sparkle, the stars are Metallic Gold Rich Pale, stripes are Metallic Platinum, the large dots are Polished Gold Super Fine and finally the butterfly is Metallic Copper. Once all the powders were added, heat set using your heat embossing tool. I heated from underneath the cardstock, as there is one powder with glitter in it and not having the airflow directly on it will help not to blow the small particles of glitter away. Be sure to brush away any random pieces of powder before heating. I realized after that I some on the edges of the white part and didn’t see them until I looked at the photos.
- I did remove a larger bit of gold embossing powder that had set on the white. First I used a very fine point poker type of tool to scrape off the bit of hardened powder. As there was still a gold mark where the powder set, I next went in with a Mono Sand Eraser. I rubbed gently over the gold mark until it was no longer visible. This would’ve only worked on the white uninked cardstock, as it would have removed some of the ink blending from other areas of the background.
- For the large Smile sentiment, diecut the word from white cardstock and ink smoosh using the Slow Drying Embossing Ink Pad and the heat emboss using Polished Gold Super Fine Powder. I did this twice as I didn’t get full coverage the first time, due to uneven inking. Adhere the diecut to a piece of low tack tape to hold it down while heat embossing a delicate diecut word….it makes it alot easier and keeps it steady. Add the heat embossed Smile to a black shadow layer.
- Adhere the ink blended and heat embossed background to a coordinating coloured piece of cardstock, cut slightly larger so that the colour just peeks out from around it. Add to a white A2 cardbase.
- Add the sentiment using liquid adhesive and add the smaller subsentiment over the bottom of the diecut. The sentiment was a pre-cut from my stash.
WOW! has such a beautiful and wide range of metallic embossing powders and they all hold their own! It may be a bit hard to see the differences of the different golds in the photos, but in person they are stunning and each has a beautiful property that makes them a standout and a must have in your collection! If I had to pick a favourite though, it would definitely have to be the Polished Gold….the shine is gorge! It’s almost like looking in a mirror! Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope that I have helped to inspire you in some way and I wish you all the most wonderful and colourful day! Until next time 🙂

Hello…..my name is Michelle and I’m a Canadian girl living in the beautiful countryside of Switzerland with my Swiss husband and 2 cats. I love all things crafty, shiny and glittery! Besides my love for papercrafting, I also enjoy crocheting and making felt flowers.
My papercrafting journey began about 20 years ago when I walked into my little local stamp and scrapbooking store to make a scrapbook album for my parents’ 20th wedding anniversary. I eventually moved on to cardmaking and haven’t looked back since.
