Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

I
Hello WOW! friends……it’s Michelle back with you with a new post for WOW! I am kicking off the first post of the year with more of a subdued colour palette, but it fits this time of year perfectly….cold and icy lol. I’ve also use done of my favourite cardmaking tools, a stencil! So keep reading and I’ll show you how easy it is to add texture with embossing powders!
Adding Texture with Embossing Powders
- Create your background by cutting a piece of watercolour paper to 4.25×5.5″. Add a light wash of colour using a light blue watercolour or pigment powders. I used Magical Powders from Lindys gang. Allow to fully dry before the next step.
- Place the In A Flurry Stencil from WOW! to the side of the cardstock and add texture paste. Remove the stencil and clean the stencil and the tool used to spread the paste immediately. Sprinkle on 3 different powders min different areas of the wet texture paste. I used Oceanside, White Twinkle and Metalline First Frost.
- Allow the paste to dry naturally on its own or dry it using your heat tool. I did the latter, as I am impatient and don’t want to wait for it to dry lol Once dry place the stencil on the other side of the paper and repeat the process. Add the paste and then sprinkle on the embossing powders. Allow to dry using either method.
- Once fully dry, very lightly tap on the raised embossed snowflakes with your embossing inkpad, but not all over. Sprinkle on Oceanic embossing powder and using a very small fine paint brush remove any stray embossing powder that may be in areas you don’t want. Heat with the heat tool to set this powder. Cut the stencilled background to 4×5.25″.
- Take a small piece of white cardstock and heat emboss using Oceanic powder. Cut out the detailed hello from the embossed white cardstock and then the shadow layer of the sentiment using black cardstock.
- Chose a small sub-sentiment from the Fab Foilers, but leave them as is black….do not foil (or you most certainly can if you want to add some foil to it).
- Add the sentiment to the background either by layering several diecut pieces together or with foam tape. Adhere the sub-sentiment below using foam squares. Add this to an A2 cardbase.
I love using stencils and embossing powders together. With the addition of the texture paste, it’s another great way of adding that fabulous texture that embossing powder gives you! Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope that I have helped to inspire you in some way and I wish you all the most wonderful and colourful day! Until next time 🙂

Michelle Burnier
Hello…..my name is Michelle and I’m a Canadian girl living in the beautiful countryside of Switzerland with my Swiss husband and 2 cats. I love all things crafty, shiny and glittery! Besides my love for papercrafting, I also enjoy crocheting and making felt flowers.
My papercrafting journey began about 20 years ago when I walked into my little local stamp and scrapbooking store to make a scrapbook album for my parents’ 20th wedding anniversary. I eventually moved on to cardmaking and haven’t looked back since.
