Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!
Hello everyone, it’s Emilie here. Today I have a distressed looking background for you where I’m embossing onto texture paste with the Building Blocks Quad mixed media embossing powders. Although these powders are full of texture by using texture paste with them you can create even more! Let’s begin.
Embossing Onto Texture Paste
I began creating this background on a piece of white cardstock and stencilling on white texture paste so that I could add embossing powder to give it some colour. To apply the paste, I used a spatula and swiped it quickly over one area of the stencil. This made the paste uneven and have distressed edges.
I then used my heat tool to emboss the power and dry the texture paste. When you add heat to texture paste it begins to bubble up, this does go down once it’s cooled. It also creates even more fantastic texture!
Once my embossed texture paste had cooled I added some text to the background. To do this I used a rubber stamp and black ink. I inked up parts of the stamp then curled up the edges and lightly pressed it onto the background with my fingers. This gave a imperfect impression which added to the distress look I was going for.
lastly I die cut the word ‘hello’ two times from white cardstock then inked them up with WOWs embossing ink and added ‘Asphalt’ embossing powder to one and ‘Concrete embossing powder to the other and heat set them with my heat tool. With the ‘Concrete’ hello on top of the ‘Asphalt’ hello I off centered it so that it created a shadow to help it stand out from the background. I stuck them together with double sided tape then glued it to the background.
