Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello! I’m Christine and this is my first project on the YouTube Design Team for Wow! So you’ll have to let me know your feedback on what you think 😀 I decided to play around with mixing a couple of stunning embossing powders (Aurora Borealis and Castleton) to cover a piece of green card for this project and once heat set I cut a mixture of Holly dies to cut from it 😀
Step By Step Tutorial
- Take a piece of green cardstock large enough to die-cut all the holly leaves you want for your card. Press your Wow ink pad all over the surface of the card to coat it in a nice layer of sticky ink.
- Take your Aurora Borealis Embossing Powder and dump a few puddles onto the card, flip the card over quickly onto some scrap paper to remove the excess, then add a few extra sprinkles using your fingers to give a less blobby effect and again tap off any loose excess and put it back in the pot.
- Then cover the rest of the sticky ink with the Castleton Embossing Powder from Seth Apter’s Quad, putting the excess back in the pot.
- Let your heat tool get nice and hot, then heat from behind to get a nice smooth finish, moving your tool as the powder melts to avoid over-heating.
- Once embossed allow to cool, I left mine until the next day in the video to show it’s fine to leave it longer, but if you do want to work with it straight again, simply use some wax paper between the die and the card to avoid it getting stuck. And die-cut out your Holly.
- You’ll also want to die-cut your sentiment from white and Holo waves card, plus a selection of foliage from Holo Waves card too.
- Trim a piece of linen effect white card down to 10 cm x 13 cm and arrange all your die-cuts on top to get your desired arrangement, taking a photo at this point can help you remember the placement that you liked!
- Start adhering down the background holly leaves first, then again do a dry run with your foliage and focal holly to check you like the arrangement, then proceed to glue down the foliage. Finally adding the main holly die cut with 3D foam to help them stand out, and don’t forget the die-cut veining detail on the focal holly too!
- Finally add your sentiment, layering it onto a small piece of torn vellum to help it stand out, and add your card front to a 10.5 cm x 13.5 cm top folding white card blank.
