Neon Dayz Thread Background | with Christine

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Have you seen the BRAND NEW Neon Dayz Collection? In today’s blog and video I’m showing a new technique (well I’ve never seen if before hehe) using 3 colours from the new collection along with white and clear powder too and the BRAND NEW Wow ink pad as well! And it’s using sewing machine thread! Hope you enjoy! Christine xxx

Step By Step Tutorial

  1. Take a piece of 10×13 cm white card, use your brayer and the new Wow ink pad to cover the card in sticky ink. Add on super fine detail white embossing powder and heat set.
  2. Cut three lengths of white thread to 30cm/12 inches, press a length of thread gently into the ink pad, covering it in clear sticky ink, then add your first colour of embossing powder all over to coat the thread. Use your pokey tool to fish your thread out of the pile of powder, and drape it onto your white heat embossed card. It may be clearer to watch the video?
  3. Repeat this with your two subsequent colours of embossing powder, laying them all overlapping onto the white heat embossed background panel.
  4. Once you’re happy and have used a dry paint brush to remove any areas of excess powder, heat your panel gently from underneath, the powder on the threads will begin to meld with the background as you re-melt the white powder in the background.
  5. Once all the threads are being held in place, you can begin to gently heat from above to get any remaining powder to melt and hold all the threads into place.
  6. If you’re worried about the threads moving if you want to die-cut the background, cover the panel in clear sticky ink and add super fine detailed clear embossing powder over the top and heat set to really secure everything to the background.
  7. Then you can finish the card how you like, I used a butterfly die and did some in-laid die-cutting and embossed my die-cut details with the same colours and added them on top, but this is more about the background and you can use it however you like!
