Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello to all the fans, and today Lidiia @scrap_in_memory_ is with you. Today I’m sharing two red Christmas cards with WOW embossing powders, featuring rich festive colours, layered textures and lots of sparkle. Both cards are created using a similar base, but with different stencil and embossing techniques, showing how versatile WOW powders can be when building background interest.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how I created smooth ink-blended backgrounds, added texture with stencils, embossing and sprays, and finally assembled the festive compositions using prepared elements and finishing details.
Red Christmas Card with Embossing Powders and Sparkles
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Create the ink-blended background
For both cards, I started with white WOW cardstock as my base. Using ink pads, I blended two shades of red, creating a soft gradient background.
I kept the top of each card lighter and gradually deepened the colour towards the bottom. This transition adds depth and helps the overall composition feel more dynamic and balanced.
Step 2 — Add texture with stencils and embossing
Next, I worked with stencils, using two different techniques on the cards:
- First card:
I applied a clear embossing ink through the stencil and heat embossed the design using Clear Gloss Super Fine embossing powder. This creates a subtle glossy pattern that catches the light beautifully without overpowering the background. - Second card:
I first applied modelling paste through the stencil. While the paste was still wet, I sprinkled Paint Me Golden embossing powder with glitter over the surface. Once dry and heat set, this technique creates a more dramatic, raised texture with extra sparkle.
Step 3 — Emboss the focal elements
To create the main decorative elements, I stamped Christmas ornaments and poinsettia images and heat embossed them using:
- Polished Gold
- Metallic Copper Super Fine
These warm metallic tones complement the red backgrounds perfectly and add an elegant festive shine to the cards.
Step 4 — Add colour and sparkle with sprays
After embossing, I coloured the elements using sprays in various shades, adding depth and vibrancy to the designs.
I also used sprays on the die-cut foliage, enhancing their colour intensity and adding extra shimmer, which helps them stand out within the layered compositions.
Step 5 — Build the composition
At this stage, I began assembling the cards, combining:
- festive paper cut-outs
- the prepared embossed elements
- additional decorative accents
The sentiments for both cards were created separately using stamps and heat embossing, then added as the final focal point to complete each composition.
Step 6 — Final details and finishing touches
To finish the cards, I added:
- sequins for subtle shine
- WOW Earth Sparkles for extra texture
- white splatters to tie all the elements together
These final touches help unify the designs and add a light, snowy feel to both cards.
In the end, these two cards came together as rich, festive Christmas designs filled with texture, warmth and sparkle. By combining layered backgrounds, different embossing techniques and carefully chosen WOW products, I was able to create cards that feel detailed yet balanced and cohesive. I hope this project inspires you to experiment with embossing powders and textures in your own holiday creations. Thank you so much for stopping by today, and I look forward to sharing more creative inspiration with you very soon.

I’m Lidiia, and I’m Ukrainian! I live in the charming and historic city of Lviv, Ukraine. I have two little daughters and a wonderful husband who is my rock, my support, and my best friend in everything.I also have a deep love for home aesthetics, so I always enjoy decorating my apartment with stylish and beautiful details.
But my biggest passion is scrapbooking—I’ve been doing it for over 8 years! I absolutely love fussy cutting elements from collections by hand (it’s a true passion of mine!), adding sparkle to every project with embossing powders, and creating handmade fabric flowers for all my works. That’s a little story about me.
