1 Powder 4 Different Ways

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey friends….it’s Michelle back with you with a new and fabulous segment of colour combinations. However today I am doing things slightly different, instead of different colour powders, I am going to show you how to use 1 powder 4 different ways. Let’s get to it, shall we!

1 Powder 4 Different Ways

Have you seen that Wow! has 3 different powders called Changers? There are 3 different ones……Texture, Sheen and Glisten. These are powders that when you add them to any of the WOW! embossing powders, changes them. As their name suggests, one will change the texture, another will add a sheen to them and the 3rd will add a sparkle to them or allow them to glisten and they are especially cool to use with the gorgeous metallic powders that WOW has. They are really fun products to use and they give your existing embossing powders a second, third and 4th life lol.

Mixing Powders

  1. Take your 3 changer powders and the 3 empty embossing powders jars that come with the WOW! It Changers Lightening Effects Kit (if you have it) or 3 small jars or small glass recipients ie bowls, etc. Be sure not to use anything plastic as WOW powders are treated for anti-static and the plastic will interfere with this, as it will introduce static to the powder.
  2. To mix the powder with the changers, you want a 1:1 ratio, that means 1 scoop of embossing powder to 1 equal scoop of the changer powder. Be sure to use a metal spoon or scoop to measure them and to mix the powders, if not using a closed recipient, for example a jar with a lid. For my project I used 4 scoops of each changer mixed with the Tarnished Brass embossing powder. Mix each powder well and set aside. Don’t forget to remember which is which once mixed up, as as not to confuse one with another.

Assembly

  1. Take a piece of white card stock cut large enough to for your desired area to diecut and go directly with your embossing ink pad to the paper and get an even coverage of the embossing ink. Sprinkle on the Tarnished Brass embossing powder and heat set with your heat embossing tool. Set this aside.
  2. Take 3 pieces of white cardstock cut large enough to cover the area of the cover plate you want to cut out and go direct with your embossing ink pad to the paper and get an even coverage of embossing ink, as you did in step 1 above. Sprinkle on each of the changer powder mixtures. Set these with your heat embossing tool.
  3. Once all of your pieces of cardstock are heat embossed, cut out with your coverplate. I cut the 2 areas that have the cut outs from the normal embossed tarnished brass powder and the other 3 areas, cut one each with the changers.
  4. Adhere the 2 tarnished brass embossed pieces using liquid adhesive to a thin sheet of copy paper cut to 5×7, as I didn’t want it to be too bulky since I was going to trim it down abit and 2 pieces of cardstock can be hard to cut through cleanly. Trim this down 1/4″ on all 4 sides before adding the remaining 3 diecut pieces. For the remaining 3 diecuts, I popped them up with some foam tape, to make them stand out a b it more and give dimension to them.
  5. Heat emboss the sentiments using ebony embossing powder. Double heat emboss the large sentiment to get a really smooth and glossy sentiment. Cut these out and add to them to the heat embossed background using both liquid and foam adhesive. Adhere all of this to a cardbase measuring 5×7″.

These powders are so fun to use! As the name suggests, the texture powder gives the powder a fabulous texture to it, slightly rough to the touch. The sheen gives it a nice shiny glossy finish and the glisten has some sparkle in it and also gives an bit of an iridescent finish to the powder. They are really cool powders to use a fabulous addition to your WOW! embossing powder collection. For my card, I have the texture on the top, glisten is the diecut in the middle and sheen is on the bottom.

This was really fun to make and even more fun using these powders! If you have any of these changers, get them out and have fun with them…see how your powders change with them. If you don’t have any of them, perhaps this will give you that nudge to grab yourself one or even the whole set to try and have fun with! Thank you so much for stopping by today and I wish you all the most wonderful and colourful day! Until next time 🙂
