8 super quick and easy heat embossing hacks to elevate your cards
Creating the background
- Using a pre-made background (you could do watercolour, ink blending, stencilling – anything you like), and stamp an outline background stamp using heat embossing ink over the top. Pour over polished silver embossing powder and heat set.
- As above, take a background panel, and add embossing ink through a stencil with a foam dabber. Remove the stencil, cover with polished silver embossing powder and heat set.
- Use the “detail” stencil from a set of layering stencils to add heat embossed embellishments. You can either ink blending each layer, allow the ink to dry, then add embossing ink through the final stencil, or start with the final stencil, heat emboss, then ink blend over the top (the powder will resist the ink and still shine through).
- Use an embossing ink pen to pick out details from some patterned paper or wrapping paper. You can use translucent powders to retain the colour from the image, or add your own colours and glitters. This also works well with the Sparkles range!
- Add Mixed Media additives to your projects for extra texture and interest. For my card, I added embossing ink using a mixed media brush through a circle stencil, added Silver Glass and Vegas Gold from the Million Dollar duo, then heat set. To finish, I added details with a fine liner to create baubles.
- Create a co-ordinating card base by swiping your embossing ink pad around the edges of your card base, adding the same powder used in your card, and heat setting.
- Jazz up patterned paper by adding strips of double sided tape, adding embossing powder over the top, and heat setting. Very quick and festive!
- Last and certainly not least – elevate any card at all with a bold heat embossed sentiment!
