A Mixed Media Card Using Speckled Pearls Trio

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello everyone, it’s Emilie here sharing with you a mixed media card using Speckled Pearls Trio, which is a gorgeous new release from WOW!

A MIXED MEDIA CARD USING SPECKLED PEARLS TRIO

BEGINNING WITH THE BACKGROUND

I started off by placing a stencil over a watercolour effect background that I had created with distress oxide ink pads. Next I spread some white texture paste over the stencil with a palette knife, this gives texture and interest to the background as well as building a layer. I didn’t want to cover all of the background so I only applied the texture paste to certain areas because I still wanted some of the that watercolour effect to show through.

After removing the stencil, I sprinkled ‘Speckled Sage’, embossing powder over the texture paste to add some colour. This also adds even more texture to the background. Next I heat set the embossed texture paste from underneath so that it doesn’t bubble up to much before going over the top with my heat tool. To add another layer to the background I stamped butterflies with brown ink in the open spaces. Lastly, I added dark green splatters with a fan brush. This helped to darken up certain areas. I also added a brown border to help the background stand out from the card base.

THE FOCAL POINT

For this I took another watercolour effect background that was slightly lighter. This was because I wanted the focal background to be the same as the main background.

Using a flowered layering stencil, I inkblended the first part of the stencil with a turquoise coloured ink over the watercolour effect background. The second part of the stencil was the detail to the flowers, which i inkblended with my embossing ink so that I could add the ‘Speckled Turquoise’ embossing powder. The last parts to the stencil are the leaves. Which I did the same as the flowers but instead used green coloured ink and ‘Speckled Egg’ embossing powder. This is a great way to add texture and colour from your embossing powders and an added layer to your focal Point. After heat setting the embossing powder, I diecut it out.

Before assembling the focal point to the background, I stamping and diecut out a butterfly. Then glued it down with liquid glue. This adds another layer to the focal point. Lastly, I used pinflair glue to adhere the focal point to the background that I had glued to a card base.
