A Non-Traditional Christmas Colour Scheme

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey crafty people, it’s Tasha here! Ready to give your Christmas crafting a colourful shake-up? This vibrant bauble background is all about playful colour, doodled details and, of course, that signature WOW! shimmer. I started with a non traditional Christmas colour scheme, simple ink-blended baubles and then brought them to life with tone-on-tone embossing using some of my favourite powders from the latest release — and let me tell you, the transformation is chef’s kiss.

This technique is such a fab way to stretch your stencils and make something completely unique every single time. Plus, it’s wonderfully therapeutic… just you, a bit of doodling, and a whole lot of sparkle.

A Non-Traditional Christmas Colour Scheme

  1. I secured an A2 panel of Neenah Solar White 80lb behind my stencil using low-tack tape.
Working in diagonal rows, to do all of one colour at the same time, I ink blended each bauble one at a time, masking off surrounding areas as I moved across the panel.
I blended from the right side of each bauble to create a soft highlight/shadow effect.
Once all three colours were finished, I set the panel aside to dry completely before adding any embossing.
  2. After the ink was fully dry, I doodled simple toppers and loose circular outlines around each bauble with a black fine liner pen.
I added a mix of fun hand-drawn patterns — stripes, dots, squiggles, even a few mini Christmas trees — to give each ornament its own personality.
  3. I neutralised any oils that transferred onto the panel from my hands with anti-static powder and used the WOW Embossing Marker to add accents on each colour group.
I embossed the purple, teal and pink baubles with coordinating WOW powders from the latest release, then heat set the entire panel once all the powders were applied.
  4. The sentiment was die cut from double-sided adhesive foam and layered onto a vellum shadow.
I covered the foam letters with Silver Earth Sparkles for a bright, icy finish that catches the light beautifully.
  5. I die cut the background with a decorative panel die to create a crisp border.
The panel was mounted onto an A2 card base with foam tape and liquid glue for perfect alignment.
I added a loose hand-drawn border to tie in the doodling from the ornaments.
I adhered the sentiment with liquid glue and a scattering of clear Bubble Blow Out embellishments finished the design.
