Creating a focal point background with embossing powders

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey crafty friends, it’s Jayne here with another installment of Exploring Embossing. Today, I’ll be creating a focal point background with embossing powders, and I have a bonus matching shaker tag to share, too!

Creating a focal point background with embossing powders

Instructions

  1. Place your stencil over some white card and secure in place. Pounce the embossing ink pad down over the stencil, to cover the entire panel. Remove stencil and clean.
  2. Using the new Dappled Pearl Effects Trio, take the first colour and apply it to a few areas of the stencil. Shake off the excess and decant back into the jar. Repeat for the other two colours, and heat set.
  3. Trim the heat embossed panel down to 2″ x 5.5″. Apply to a white card base using tape runner.
  4. Stamp the sentiment to the bottom left of the card. I used a stamp positioner to stamp several times and get a good, clear impression.
  5. Stamp, colour and fussy cut the mermaids and fish from the Greeting Farm set. The colours I used are listed below.
  6. Add to the card background with foam squares.

Copic colours:

Teals – BG18, BG15, BG32

Purples – V17, V15, V12, V01

Greens – YG23, YG21, G20

Blues – B37, B32

E09, E17, E25, E13 Mermaid 1 hair

E13, E11, E00 Mermaid 2 skin

E27, E35, E33 Mermaid 2 hair

E42, E41, E40 Mermaid 2 skin

Cheeks – R20

Bonus project – shaker tag

  • Die cut the front and back panels from Heffy Doodle’s shaker tag dies.
  • Add a piece of acetate to the reverse of the front of the tag, using liquid glue.
  • Add thin foam strips around the edge of the front of the tag, and dust the edges of the foam strips with anti-static powder, to stop the shaker filling sticking to them.
  • Add Cotton Candy sparkles to the inside of the shaker window.
  • Trim down some of the leftover heat embossed panel and add to the back tag die-cut.
  • Peel off the release paper from the foam strips, and add the back of the tag, with the heat embossing showing through the window.
  • Add a stamped, coloured and fussy-cut mermaid, and a sentiment, with liquid glue.
  • Finish the tag with some black and white twine.
