Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey WOW! friends….it’s Michelle back with you sharing a fun and super easy technique using a fun colour combination. The embossing is the star on this card…besides the sentiment that’s all there is, the embossing powder. A few weeks ago I was watching some videos on YouTube and came across one from Marion Emberson (otherwise known on Instagram known as Sugar and Spice), she is one of the amazing designers at WOW! that create some gorgeous powders. This is kind like a pouncing technique, where you create a skin if you will, with the powders. This was soooo easy and quick to do…let’s get started, shall we and I’ll show you how the embossing powder is the star!
Embossing Powder is the Star
- Chose your powders that you want to use. The possibilities are truly endless with technique. I used Poppin Yellow, Poppin Blue and Poppin Pink as the main colours anf then added in a little bit of the Ultra High Metallic Gold, Ebony and Opaque Bright White. Cut a piece of oven or parchment paper and fold in half. Sprinkle each of the powders on the parchment paper randomly. Add them until you are happy with how much you have on it. I may have added too many and made mine too big, so be careful how much you add.
- Fold the paper over and start to heat the powders from on top of the paper using your heat embossing tool. Once you see the powders begin to melt, you can then go in and pounce with the heat tool. To pounce you want to really quickly just kind of touch down the nozzle of the heat tool to the paper and quickly bring it bacj up again. Do not hold it down for any amount of time than just touching it down ever so slightly, as this will bock the flow of hot air coming out and you do not want to do that.
- Once all of the powder is melted you can peel back the paper once the powders are still warm. You may see that the finish to them are more matt than the usual shininess. I went back over it with the heat tool once the paper was pulled away and this brought the shien away. It also created the holes in the embossing powder skin. The longer you hold the heat tool, the bigger the holes it creates.
- Once it is all cool, peel it away from the parchment paper. I nused a metal mixed media spatula or you could just use your fingers to pull it away. You will get 2 for 1 here, one on either side of the paper. Be care ful when peeling the skins off the paper, as they may be a bit delicate.
- Stamp or heat emboss your sentiment and diecut it out., I stamped mine in black ink and added some glossy accents for a bit of texture to it and bring a super glossy finish to it. Adhere the sentiments using liquid and foam adhesive.
- Adhere the skins to your cardbase using glue and add your sentiments.
This was such a fun, fast and super easy technique to do…I am most definitely going to be playing around with it some more. You want to just be careful when adding black though, as it can take over abit and become a bit overwhelming. I may have added a bit too much black and white as well…oh well, it’s all a learning process, isn’t it! Thank you so very much for stopping by today and I wish you all the most wonderful and colourful day! Until next time 🙂

Hello…..my name is Michelle and I’m a Canadian girl living in the beautiful countryside of Switzerland with my Swiss husband and 2 cats. I love all things crafty, shiny and glittery! Besides my love for papercrafting, I also enjoy crocheting and making felt flowers.
My papercrafting journey began about 20 years ago when I walked into my little local stamp and scrapbooking store to make a scrapbook album for my parents’ 20th wedding anniversary. I eventually moved on to cardmaking and haven’t looked back since.
