Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello! I’m Christine and I’ve got a little bit of early Valentine’s Day inspiration for you today showing how you can use your layered stencil designs with your heat embossing! We’re using a few Distress Ink colours for the main background, then adding the fabulous Pink Sapphire powder from Brennan Keane in his Pinktastic Duo and the phenomenal Amethyst Ice powder from Seth Apter in his Enchanted Alchemy Quad. I’ve also made my own ‘enamel’ style word embellishment too by stacking up 3 black die-cuts and triple heat embossing the Regular Ebony Black Embossing Powder.
Step By Step Tutorial
- Starting with a piece of 10 x 13 cm white card, take the 2 background layers of the Funky Hearts Stencil, pick one and select a couple of tones of pink Distress Inks (Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry) Ink blend the openings with the lightest shade, then add a little of the darker shade to give a little variation.
- Repeat with the second background stencil, this time with 2 tones of purple Distress Inks (Shaded Lilac and Wilted Violet). Leave the background to dry or use your heat tool to speed up the drying process.
- Cover your background panel with anti-static powder, this isn’t for the powders themselves as Wow powders are treated for static, it’s just so that any moisture that’s left in the card from the ink blending won’t grab onto the embossing powders for the next steps.
- Take the first heart stencil and place it over the corresponding pink background sections, use an ink blending brush and your ultra slow drying Wow Embossing Ink Pad to ink through the hearts (just as you would if you were using a coloured ink!) Then use the Pink Sapphire powder to cover the sticky ink, tip off the excess and heat set from underneath for a nice smooth finish.
- Repeat the process with the next heart stencil over the purple background sections and using Seth Apter’s Amethyst Ice powder.
- For the ‘enamel’ word sentiment, take the Lawn Fawn Scripty Love die and cut it 3 times from black card, layer these up together and press it into your ultra slow drying Wow Embossing Ink Pad, add regular Ebony Black embossing powder, tip off the excess and heat set.
- Keep your ebony black powder pot open, heat the ‘ve’ of the word again, and add more powder, tip off the excess and heat, then repeat again still just focusing on the ‘ve’.
- Flip the sentiment round and repeat the process with the ‘lo’ I find this is much easier than trying to get rid of tweezer marks if you work on the whole word at once.
- For a little extra detail on the background use a sparkly gel pen and a fine white paint pen to add some details, then simply add your panel to your card blank (10.5 cm x 13.5 cm white top folding) and add your sentiment too.
