Hey WOW! friends…..it’s Michelle back with a new project showing another way to use those gorgeous WOW! Hot Foils without the use of a hot foil machine. Hot foiling without heat, you say??? As crazy as that may seem, it is doable! All you need are 3 simple supplies for this gorgeous stencilled piece. Let’s get started and I’ll show you how to Hot Foil Stencilled Images that WOW!
Hot Foil Stencilled Images that WOW!
- Create a watercolour ombré background using metallic paints on black watercolour paper. Allow it to dry. Hold onto those paper towels you used under the piece to catch that extra paint, as you can use them for future backgrounds.
- Once the background is dry, secure your chosen stencil to the watercoloured background using some low tack tape on the front to protect the exposed edges of the cardstock.
- Apply an even layer of Decofoil Transfer Gel Duo the stencil. Be sure to get an even layer or you may have uneven spots like I did, where the foil didn’t adhere (although I quite like the look of it). This type of gel can be used with foils with or without heat. This gel dries clear but remains tacky once dry. So that means, that you can apply either toner reactive foil or as I discovered, you can also use hot foil with it. You would normally need either a heat source (a laminator or Minc machine) or simply just some pressure for the foil to stick to the dry tacky gel.
- I cut a piece of Magenta foil large enough to cover the stencilled piece and applied it over the dried gel.
- Since this type of foil will not adhere using pressure as it is a foil that needs a heat source, I took out my heat embossing tool. With the foil still on the gel, I went over it lightly with the heat embossing tool. I didn’t apply too much heat, but just enough for it to adhere to the gel. I let it cool for about 5 seconds and peeled back the foil.
- Trim down the piece to 3.75×5″ and adhere to your A2 cardbase using foam tape. Add your chosen sentiment with some foam tape.
This is another fabulous way to use your hot foils in different ways and to bring your stencils to life! The simplicity of this allows the Magenta foil to shine (literally) and take center stage.
