Hi everyone, it’s Katarina here, and today I’m sharing a galaxy-inspired card featuring the gorgeous WOW! Stonewashed Duo Embossing Powders.
For this project, I wanted to create a rich, atmospheric background inspired by the night sky, with lots of texture, dimension and shine. The beautiful mix of blues, purples and metallic tones works perfectly with the Stonewashed Duo, while the layered stars really bring the whole design together.

I’ve created a full step-by-step video tutorial showing you exactly how I made this card, from creating the galaxy-inspired background to adding the embossed details and assembling all of those dimensional stars.
Creating the Card
Start by creating your galaxy-inspired background, blending together deep blue and purple tones to build up plenty of depth and variation. Add splatters across the background to give the effect of a star-filled night sky.
Die cut a selection of stars in different sizes. Apply embossing ink to the stars and cover with the WOW! Stonewashed Duo Embossing Powders before heat setting. The different textures and tones within the powders create a gorgeous distressed, almost cosmic finish.
Add additional embossed details to the background, building up areas of texture rather than covering the entire panel. This helps create that atmospheric mixed-media effect while still allowing the blended colours underneath to show through.
Arrange the stars across the card, layering and overlapping different sizes to create movement and dimension. Use dimensional adhesive on some of the elements to lift them away from the background.
Finish the card with your sentiment and any final splatters or small details before adhering the completed panel to your card base.
Final Thoughts
I absolutely love how this galaxy-inspired card came together. The combination of those deep blues and purples with the WOW! Stonewashed Duo creates so much texture and interest, and every embossed star has its own slightly different finish.
The Stonewashed Duo works beautifully for this type of project because the textured effect adds even more depth to the galaxy theme without needing lots of additional embellishments.
