heat embossing die cuts – Sea THEMED Card

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hi! It’s Laura on the WOW Embossing blog today and I have a card making tutorial that is packed with tips and tricks for heat embossing die cuts so join me for an underwater card making adventure as we make a sea themed card together!

Step by Step Guide – Sea themed card

  1. First cut a white card panel to 5.5 inches squared. Next line a circle die up that measures approximately 4 inches on the centre of your card panel and tack it in place with some low tack tape.
  2. Second, partially die cut the circle from the card panel. Next you will need to remove the die and low tack tape and take a metal ruler and a craft knife to cut a straight line from the edge of the partial die cut circle to the other edge. Then add some red line tape to the back around the die cut semi-circle and then attach an acetate window.
  3. Take a card blank that measures approximate 6 inches square and add some ink blending to the centre where the window will be on the front of the card. I used Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide and Gina K Designs Turquoise Sea and Sea Glass inks. Spritz with water. Set to dry.
  4. You then need to heat emboss your die cut elements by first inking them up using the WOW Embossing Ink pad and then coating them with embossing powder. Heat set them on the hottest setting. I used the Hint of Pink from the Pastel Pearls trio and all three of the embossing powders from the Speckled Pearls Trio.
  5. Stamp your sentiment to the front of the panel, wrap a piece of string underneath the window and then add foam tape to the back and set to one side.
  6. Arrange your die cuts in the area that will show through the window. Stamp some fish in the background using the same Turquoise Sea ink and then once your happy with your layout glue the elements down.
  7. Remove the backing tape from the foam tape and add some liquid glue to it so you have some wiggle room and can line it up nice and centrally.
  8. Finally, add a few water droplet gems, a little string bow and the heat embossed sea horse to the front using some foam tape.

Laura Murcott

Hi! My name is Laura and I live in a small city in the UK with my husband and fur baby cat Maisie.

I started crafting in 2020 and have been hooked ever since! My husband bought me my first heat tool as a present because he kept hearing the words ’embossing’ on tutorials I was watching and it was one of the best gifts he could buy! I use it nearly every single day.

I love experimenting and trying new things when it comes to card making and I love finding new ways to use what I have in my stash!
