Heat Embossing on dark cardstock

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hi everybody, how are you? I have a question – have you ever tried heat embossing on dark cardstock? It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a while, and I was curious to see how the new Pastel Pearl trio – which is very subtle and sophisticated on white cardstock – would show up on black cardstock. And WOW, was I stunned by the difference!

Heat embossing on dark cardstock

Instructions – creating the background.

  1. Cut a panel of dark cardstock to A2 size. Dust with anti-static powder.
  2. Place your stencil over the cardstock, and secure in place (I used a magnetic craft mat and magnets, but good old fashioned washi tape would do just fine!).
  3. Press your embossing ink down over the stencil (rather than swiping, which could shift the stencil). Remove your stencil & clean.
  4. Apply the Hint of Pink powder to the top third of the stencil. When pouring the excess powder off the card, make sure to do it away from the uncovered embossing ink. Repeat with the Hint of Blue in the centre, and Hint of Green at the bottom.
  5. Heat set the panel with your heat tool on the highest setting.
  6. Dust off any anti-static powder with a slightly damp cloth.

Instructions – finishing the card

  1. Die-cut your sentiment – I used the Big Hugs sentiment from Concord & 9th’s Just Say More die set. I cut it out twice from white cardstock and once from holographic card and stacked them together with liquid glue, before adding them to the shadow die, which I’d cut out from adhesive vellum.
  2. Remove the backing from the vellum and add the sentiment to the card. Finish with some sequins in co-ordinating colours.
  3. Add foam tape to the back of the panel and add to a white card base, so there’s a white border all the way around the panel.
