Making Brayered Backgrounds

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello Everyone, It’s Emilie here. Recently I have been enjoying making brayered backgrounds with inks and embossing powders, like this fall inspired one that I am sharing today. Creating brayered backgrounds gives great texture and is a fun technique to try.

Making A Brayered Background.

To begin this background I started with a piece of white card and ink pads that reminded me of fall. These colours are Yellow, Orange, and green. I built up the colour by layering them with a brayer. Here’s some steps for how I did it.

  1. Ink up the brayer by gently rolling it over the ink pad.
  2. To apply the ink to the card with the brayer it is best to start at the outer edges and work towards the centre and apply a light amount of pressure, with a quick flick motion.
  3. Roll the brayer in a horizontal and vertical direction.

after these steps I added some cream paint with my brayer and some splatters and left it to dry.

On my background I built up layers of embossing powders and heat set them in-between. With Macchiato embossing powder being my first layer. I brayered on more embossing ink and went over it and added Pumpkin Latte embossing powder. You can see from the pictures the effects these embossing powers gave the background. My final bit of embossing this background, was with an embossing folder (see pic for effect). I used some sand paper to remove the ink off of some of the raised areas that the embossing folder made.

For the focal point I used a flower wreath stencil to ink blend more fall colours of ink and added the two colours of embossing powders I had used for my background. I cut out the wreath and glued a circle to the middle that was cut out from another brayered background. In the circle I stamped a sentiment and heat embossed with Pumpkin Latte embossing powder.
