Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello to all the fans, and today Lidiia @scrap_in_memory_ is with you. In this project, I combined a multi-layered composition, rich textures, and a natural color palette with golden accents. The depth is created through a mixed media background, dimensional elements, and WOW! embossing powders that add an aged metal and sandy effect. This tag captures the spirit of adventure, exploration, and discovery.
Adventure Awaits You – mixed media tag
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Creating the Base
First, we create the foundation for the project. I die-cut a tag shape from kraft cardstock. Then, I added a background grid die-cut and separated it into two parts, placing one piece along one edge of the tag and the other piece along the opposite edge to create balance and visual interest. I also started gluing small numbers in a random order across different areas of the tag, gradually building up layered texture in the background. I also started gluing small numbers in a random order across different areas of the tag, gradually building up layered texture in the background.
Once all the elements were adhered in their places, I primed the entire surface with white gesso. This step prepares the background for further work and helps unify all the layers underneath.
Step 2 — Working with Sprays and Texture
At this stage, I worked with Lindy’s sprays, applying them several times to achieve the desired shade. I mixed them with glitter sprays to softly highlight certain areas and add subtle shimmer.
It’s important to thoroughly dry each layer with a heat tool before applying the next one.
Once I was happy with the painted background, I added texture using texture paste and stencils. Then, I stamped over the surface with archival ink to create a more complex and layered effect.
As a final step in building the background, I applied wax to highlight the raised texture and intensify the colors, bringing extra depth and dimension to the piece.
Step 3 — Embossing
At this stage, I die-cut several squares in different sizes. To achieve an even and smooth embossed coating, I used the new Mixed Media Embossing Brush, which is perfect for covering larger areas quickly and uniformly.
For this project, I chose the beautiful and natural embossing powders Guilded Sand and Gilded Moss designed by Seth Apter for WOW! These shades add an organic, earthy metallic effect that perfectly complements the mixed media background.
As a final touch, I also die-cut additional elements such as arrows, a clock mechanism, and light bulbs, and randomly embossed them with the same powders to keep the composition cohesive and visually balanced.
Step 4 — Final Step – Building the Composition
At this stage, I assembled the composition by alternating embossed elements with die-cuts from a paper collection that perfectly suited the mood of this project. I adhered the paper die-cuts using foam sheets to lift the elements and create extra dimension. The key here is to build the composition thoughtfully: larger elements should remain at the bottom, while smaller details are layered on top. This helps maintain balance and visual harmony.
To finish the piece, I added white and gold splatters, tying all the elements together into one cohesive and harmonious composition.
The result is a striking mixed media tag with rich texture, depth and metallic shimmer. The combination of a natural palette and WOW! embossing creates an atmosphere of adventure and discovery, with each layer adding story and character. Thank you for creating with me! See you soon in new projects

I’m Lidiia, and I’m Ukrainian! I live in the charming and historic city of Lviv, Ukraine. I have two little daughters and a wonderful husband who is my rock, my support, and my best friend in everything.I also have a deep love for home aesthetics, so I always enjoy decorating my apartment with stylish and beautiful details.
But my biggest passion is scrapbooking—I’ve been doing it for over 8 years! I absolutely love fussy cutting elements from collections by hand (it’s a true passion of mine!), adding sparkle to every project with embossing powders, and creating handmade fabric flowers for all my works. That’s a little story about me.
