Mixed Media powders and Changers | with Christine

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello! I’m Christine and today we’re having another play with the fabulous Changers from WOW! this time looking at the Sheen! The Sheen powder gives a lovely pearl sheen to your powders with a blue mica hint and in today’s blog and video we experiment mixing it with some of Seth’s Mixed Media powders 😀

Step By Step Tutorial

  1. Select your chosen mixed media powder (for the main project I’m using Brick from the Building Blocks Quad) have your sheen changer ready and an empty pot too.
  2. Decide how much powder you’ll need for your project and pick an appropriately sized metal spoon, then decant 2 spoons of sheen and one spoon of Brick into your empty pot. Add the lid back on and shake well to distribute the powders nicely.
  3. Die-cut out your chosen focal elements from brown card (when working with darker colours, it’s often nicer to die-cut from coloured card rather than white) You’ll want the solid backing piece and 2 detailed die-cuts.
  4. Add your ultra slow drying ink all over your solid backing die-cut, then take your original Brick embossing powder, add it on top, tip off the excess and heat set.
  5. Then take a scrap of card and temporarily adhere, using a dot runner, your 2 detailed die-cuts so this acts as a handle for easier heat embossing. Add your ultra slow drying ink all over as we did before, but this time heat emboss with the sheen brick mixture.
  6. Once you’ve heat set the first layer, transfer your die-cuts onto a new scrap of card and repeat the process twice more so you get nice thickly embossed die-cuts.
  7. Build up your focal embellishment adhering the sheen brick detailed die-cuts on top of the brick embossed solid panel.
  8. Add this to a 10 x 13 cm white card panel which you’ve embossed with an embossing folder and adhere your vintage Dymo label sentiment on top in the centre.
  9. To balance the card, die-cut a few extra of the smaller dies from the Twisters die set from black card and scatter them diagonally across the card tucking them behind the focal point, and finish by adding in a few black pearls too.
