Today I’m sharing a vintage style card using WOW Changers embossing powders, where I combined layered composition, soft shimmer and rich textural effects. For this project, I especially wanted to explore how you can transform your regular embossing powders by incorporating the WOW Changers range.

In this post, I’ll walk you through how I created a layered background, how I worked with Changers powders, and how mixing them allows you to achieve completely different effects — from a soft pearlescent sheen to more dimensional and textured finishes.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 — Create the layered background

For the base, I used vintage-style patterned paper and created a layered background using different sized pieces of designer paper, alternating them so that softer, more subtle patterns are balanced with more detailed and active prints. By layering them in this way, the composition becomes more dynamic while still feeling harmonious.

I also softly inked the edges of each layer to enhance the depth and give the card a slightly aged, blended look. This creates a beautiful foundation for the composition and helps all elements come together more naturally.

Step 2 — Add shimmer with WOW Changers embossing powders

Next, I moved on to the most exciting part — working with WOW Changers powders.

I used three variations: Texture, Sheen and Glisten.
The key feature of this range is the ability to mix them with standard WOW embossing powders, creating completely new effects depending on the proportions and combinations used.

In this project, I decided to experiment with all three Changers:

I used Texture on its own mixed with one embossing powder;
and combined Glisten and Sheen together with other embossing powders.

This resulted in unique custom blends that look completely different from the original powders.

I used these experimental mixes both on the background and on decorative elements such as chipboard and paper die-cuts.

This approach allowed me to achieve a variety of finishes — from soft pearlescent shimmer to more pronounced, almost textured surfaces with added sparkle.

Step 3 — Prepare elements and build the composition

For the focal point, I used a combination of paper die-cuts and embellishments, including flowers, a bird, foliage and an architectural element.

I enhanced selected elements with embossing using the custom powder mixes, then layered everything to create depth and dimension. Larger elements were placed first, followed by medium and smaller details to balance the composition.

Foam adhesive helped lift certain areas, adding a more dynamic and dimensional look. The sentiment “adventure awaits you” was added at the end to complete the design.

Step 4 — Final details and finishing touches

To finish the card, I added sequins and a few extra sparkling accents, including subtle touches of WOW Changers powders to tie everything together.

These final details bring harmony to the composition and give the project a soft, elegant finish with just the right amount of shimmer.

In the end, this project came together as a soft and elegant vintage-style card filled with beautiful texture and subtle shimmer. By combining WOW Changers powders with traditional embossing powders, I was able to create a variety of unique effects that add depth and interest to the design.
