For someone whose favourite colour palette involves neutrals, classic sages and pale pinks…. I did not anticipate how much I would fall in love with the new Neon Dayz embossing powders from Wow Embossing! I literally cannot stop making cards with them. They look great on standard white cards, but if you want to see them really pop, try them against a black background! In today’s video (YouTube link below), I’m creating a birthday card that packs a neon punch by using a bold sentiment cover die.
Below are brief instructions, but for all the card details, please do join me over on YouTube!
What You’ll Need
- Black cardstock
- Neon embossing powders in Shockwave, Lime Zest and Electric Pulse
- Heat embossing tool
- Embossing ink
- Liquid glue
- Scissors
- (Ideal but not necesary) paper trimmer/guillotine
- Die-cutting machine and a bold sentiment die
- (Optional) a stamped, coloured image to finish
- (Optional) a sentiment strip to finish
Instructions: bold neon sentiment card
- Die cut your sentiment or cover plate die from the centre of an A2 panel of black cardstock. Reserve the centres of the letters as we’ll need those later.
- On another A2 panel, mark out the height of each row of words in your sentiment die using a pencil. Cut the panel at each of these lines using a paper trimmer so you are left with the same number of strips as the rows of words in your sentiment.
- Ink up each strip with embossing ink – use a brayer for larger areas, especially if using the new, super juicy ink pad!
- Pour each of the three embossing powders over the three strips (one per strip) and heat set.
- Turn over the die-cut panel and adhere the embossed strips behind the words using liquid glue. On the right side of the panel, glue the centres of each letters left over from die-cutting.
- On the right side of the panel, add a pre-stamped and coloured image in co-ordinating colours using foam squares (optional).
- To finish, adhere a sub-sentiment strip with foam tape (optional).

Hey! I’m Jayne, or you may know me as Card Days’ Night!
I live in Chester, UK, with my husband and two young daughters, and I work as a travel lawyer – so life is pretty full on! When I’m not busy with work, kids and family life, I love nothing more than spending time in my craft room. Cardmaking is my passion but I also love planning, memory keeping and sewing.
I love to explore new places, but I’m always happiest when I’m home!
