Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Today I’m sharing a soft romantic mixed media card with WOW embossing powders, combining delicate textures, layered elements and elegant embossed details. For this project, I wanted to create a gentle vintage-inspired design with a feminine colour palette, floral accents and dimensional layers.
I focused on creating depth and texture by combining patterned papers, handmade embellishments and heat embossing techniques. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how I built the background, prepared the decorative elements and added shimmering WOW embossing details to bring the whole card design together.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Create the card base and prepare the background
I started by creating the base of my card using WOW Superior Smooth White Cardstock.
After preparing the card base, I layered different pieces of designer paper, combining soft neutral tones with a stronger patterned accent to create contrast and visual interest.
To add more dimension, I slightly distressed and inked the edges of the papers before layering them together. This small step helps create a vintage feel and makes each layer stand out.
For extra texture, I added details to the background using a stencil and Modeling texture paste, creating a subtle raised pattern that works beautifully behind the main composition.
Step 2 — Add embossed details and prepare decorative elements
The next step was preparing all the decorative pieces for my composition.
I used WOW embossing powders to add texture, shine and beautiful raised details to different elements. For this project, I embossed both chipboard pieces and die-cut paper elements created from white cardstock.
I also had the opportunity to experiment with the new WOW Neon Days embossing powder collection. For this project, I used WR13R Lime Zest, which added a fresh and vibrant pop of colour and created an unexpected contrast with the soft romantic tones of the card.
For the chipboard pieces, I applied embossing ink using the WOW Mixed Media Embossing Brush. This brush is perfect for covering larger textured surfaces and helps achieve an even layer of embossing ink before adding the powder. After applying the embossing powder, I heat set it to create a smooth, dimensional finish.
For the smaller paper die-cut elements, I used a new WOW embossing ink pad to cover the surfaces before adding embossing powder. This allowed me to achieve a more precise application and highlight the delicate details of the shapes.
I love how heat embossing can completely transform simple chipboard and paper pieces, giving them a luxurious finish and helping them blend beautifully into the overall card design.
Step 3 — Build the layered floral composition
Once all elements were prepared, I started assembling the card.
I combined:
- paper cut-outs
- floral embellishments
- die-cut leaves and branches
- decorative images
- fabric flowers
- additional textured details
I built the composition gradually, starting with the largest focal elements and adding smaller details around them to create balance.
Foam adhesive was used between layers to add dimension and make the flowers and decorative pieces stand out from the background.
Step 4 — Finishing touches
For the final details, I added small sparkling accents, pearls and delicate embellishments to connect all parts of the design.
These small finishing touches help create that magical mixed media effect and bring the entire composition together.
As a result, I created a soft and elegant mixed media card with WOW embossing powders, combining romantic colours, layered textures and delicate handmade details. I love how embossing can completely transform simple elements and add that extra touch of sparkle and dimension to a project.
I hope this card inspires you to experiment with layering, textures and WOW embossing techniques in your own creations.

I’m Lidiia, and I’m Ukrainian! I live in the charming and historic city of Lviv, Ukraine. I have two little daughters and a wonderful husband who is my rock, my support, and my best friend in everything.I also have a deep love for home aesthetics, so I always enjoy decorating my apartment with stylish and beautiful details.
But my biggest passion is scrapbooking—I’ve been doing it for over 8 years! I absolutely love fussy cutting elements from collections by hand (it’s a true passion of mine!), adding sparkle to every project with embossing powders, and creating handmade fabric flowers for all my works. That’s a little story about me.
