Hi everyone, Katarina here! Today I’m sharing how to create a spring butterfly card featuring a woven background with heat embossed details.
This project shows how combining structure with softer elements can bring balance to your cardmaking. The woven background provides a strong, graphic base, while heat embossing adds shine, texture, and ties the design together.
For this card, I used the Gorgeous Naturals Trio set of embossing powders, Hint of Green, and from the sparkles range, Your Carriage Awaits. Layering these techniques builds dimension without overwhelming the design, letting each element complement the next.
A closer look at what’s happening in this card – watch the video above for the complete tutorial.
Step‑by‑Step Overview
Card Base & Frame
Fold a 7×7″ card in half.
Layer a black panel, then a white panel on the front.
Place the square frame on top.
Cut out the rectangle inside the frame from the card base.
Woven Background
Weave black cardstock strips into a grid.
Heat emboss lightly with green powder.
Adhere the woven panel behind the frame.
Glue the frame onto the card front.
Butterflies & Sentiment
Die cut the butterflies.
Heat emboss one set with Summer Meadow, the other with Cottage Garden.
Layer the butterflies together and stick onto the frame.
Die cut the sentiment and heat emboss with Fern Forest.
Layer and add the sentiment onto the card front.
