Welcome, crafters! Today, we’re diving into the world of Mixed Media Additives, or MMAs for short. So, if you’ve seen our new release and you’re left asking yourself ‘What are Mixed Media Additives? Then you’re in the right place!

What are Mixed Media Additives?

These innovative materials from WOW are designed to elevate your crafting projects, adding texture, dimension, and a touch of magic. In this tutorial, I’ll be showcasing the versatility of MMAs, demonstrating various techniques to incorporate them into your designs. Whether you’re a fan of mixed media or prefer clean and simple styles, there’s something here for everyone. Let’s get started and see what amazing creations you can make with WOW MMAs!

Introducing Mixed Media Additives (MMAs)

Silver Glass: Part of the Million Dollar Duo, featuring different sized chunks that catch the light beautifully. Despite their dimension, they aren’t sharp.
Dragon Scales: Containing polymer flakes that almost resemble paint chips. Dragon Scales are deep green, with a matte finish.
Harlequin: Containing polymer flakes that almost resemble paint chips. Harlequin is a mix of bright yellow-green and green, again with a matte finish

Technique Inspiration

Applying MMAs with Embossing Paste Apply Embossing Paste to a scrap of card, varying the thickness for texture. Sprinkle Dragon Scales and Harlequin over the paste. You can pat them in lightly or leave them sticking up. Alternatively, mix the MMAs into the paste before applying for a Terrazzo effect. Let it dry naturally or use our Dual Speed Heat Tool on setting 1.
Heat Embossing with MMAs – Sprinkle Method Squish a card into WOW Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Ink. Apply Black Ultra High powder and melt from below. Once cooled, add another layer of ink and sprinkle Silver Glass on top, heating from below again.
Heat Embossing with MMAs – Pre-Mixed Method Mix Silver Glass with Vegas Gold powder in a treated jar using a metal spoon. Apply to a card and heat from below.
Applying MMAs with Double-Sided Adhesive – Smooth Method Apply strips of heat safe double sided adhesive to cardstock. Apply Dragon Scales, patting them down and removing excess. Apply Pastiche all over to fill in the gaps. Heat set.
Applying MMAs with Double-Sided Adhesive – Chunky Method Apply strips of heat safe double sided adhesive to cardstock. Sprinkle Silver Glass across, then apply Vegas Gold Embossing Powder, pressing into the adhesive with a small paintbrush. Sweep away any excess, and heat set from below
Applying MMAs with Double-Sided Adhesive – No Heat Method Apply your double sided adhesive and put Harlequin across it all, pat into the adhesive and pour excess onto scrap paper. With your preferred blunt tool, crush this excess (and more if needed) into smaller chunks & dust. Apply this back over the tape, again using a brush to pack it in and sweep the dust to where it’s needed.
Applying MMAs with Double-Sided Adhesive – Die Cut Method Apply heat safe double sided adhesive to cardstock before die cutting. Now continue with any of the previous methods onto that die cut shape/word.
Use As Embellishments Apply dots of liquid glue to anywhere you want to add a fun or different embellishment and use a pick up stick to apply single pieces of any of our MMAs to this glue. (Strong adhesive advised.)
Use In Shakers Use any combination of our MMAs either alone or with additional elements in your shaker projects!

Amanda created stripes of Silver Glass with double-sided adhesive tape.
Emilie sprinkled Harlequin flakes over an embossed panel and heated.
Aditi embossed die-cut stars with Harlequin flakes sprinkled over.
Michelle added Dragon Scales to melted wax before stamping.
Nicki used Harlequin as shaker bits in a birthday card.
Quyen created a full panel shaker with Harlequin and Dragon Scales behind vellum.
Jayne sandwiched Dragon Scales between layers of Clear Gloss on black cardstock.

Tasha made a thick strip of Silver Glass on double-sided adhesive as a floral backdrop.
