Alcohol Marker Colouring

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hi everyone! I’m Alexandra of @rookiecardmaker and I’m the Guest Designer for August! I can’t believe this is my last post as a Guest Designer! I’ve had a great time sharing my card designs with you this month and I hope you have enjoyed them too.

For my last card, I have a fun pumpkin covered card plus I share how I safely use alcohol markers and embossing powder!

My favourite way to colour images is with my Ohuhu Alcohol markers. I just love the vibrant colours and blends I can achieve. The only downside is that if you colour over embossing powder you risk damaging your markers, which you don’t want!

This is the best work around I’ve found, it adds an extra step but doesn’t take much time and it is totally worth it to keep my markers in good condition!

What you do is stamp your images with an alcohol marker safe ink, I used Momento Tuxedo black, using a stamp positoner.

Then you clean off the stamps but leave them in the stamp positioner while you colour the images like normal. After colouring the images, pop the cardstock back in the stamp positioner in the same position and stamp over the images again using Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Ink. Then you just add the embossing powder of your choice and heat set.

Because you add the embossing powder after you have coloured the images, your markers never come into contact with the embossed lines so there is no risk of damage to them.

For this card I created a bunch of pumpkins using the steps above. I coloured the pumpkins with some fun colours using my Ohuhu alcohol markers and then embossed them with the Polished Gold Super Fine Embossing powder.

I fussy cut out all the pumpkins and popped them up with foam squares for some dimension. I embossed the sentiment with the Polished Gold and arranged the pumpkins all over a 3.75 x 5 inch card front panel.

I cut off the excess overhanging before adding the card front to my cardbase with some foam tape. I finished off by adding some gold pearls to fill in the open areas.

I created a short Reel demonstrating how I embossed over the coloured images, you can watch it over on Instagram!

I hope you have enjoyed my Guest Designer posts this month! I would love it if you would come follow me on my Instagram @rookiecardmaker for even more cardmaking inspiration!
