Hey WOW! friends…..it’s Michelle back with a new project for you today. Have you ever heard of the black out technique? Well if not, let me explain. It is where you ink blend a blank canvas ( a piece of cardstock) and emboss this using a 3d embossing folder. Well I decided to try and achieve the same look with this technique, but using embossing powders instead of the ink. I decided to go with 3 of the gorgeous new and vivid colours from the latest Neon Dayz release. Keep reading and I’ll show you how I created this and Mastered the Black Out Technique with Embossing Powders.
How To Intsructions:
- 3D emboss a piece of watercolour paper using your chosen embossing folder. I find you get better embossed results with this type of paper. With your embossing ink pad carefully rub it over the raised embossed areas only. Be careful not to get it on the areas that were not embossed. Sprinkle on the embossing powders over the design one at a time. I used Shockwave, Electric Pulse and Inferno. Before heat setting the powders take a small paintbrush and carefully remove any powder that is in areas you do not want. Once all the excess powder is removed, heat set the powders using your heat embossing tool.
- Once it is completely cool, you can either run a black ink pad directly over the entire piece of cardstock or you can ink blend and cover it that way with black ink. Whichever method you use continue until you have a fully covered and even black background. You want it to appear as if it was black cardstock to begin with. Trim down the background to 4×5.25″ and set aside.
- Diecut the hello sentiment 3x from black cardstock and heat emboss 1 of them using Metallic Gold Rich Regular. I embossed it twice to get a beautifully smooth result. Adhere these together using glue. For the smaller sub-sentiment I actually used a BetterPress plate. Use the plate as you normally would with any other ink, but instead use embossing ink. Sprinkle on the gold embossing powder and heat set. Be sure to clean off the plate immediately after.
- Trim down the small piece and add your 2 sentiments to the embossed background and adhere to your A2 cardbase. Add a few flat back gold pearls around the sentiment to finish it off.
This is such a fun technique to play with and I was so happy that it translated weembossing powders. The new Neon Dayz powders work perfectly with this as well, as they just pop against black! Thank you so much for joining me today and I hope that I have helped to inspire you! I wish you all a crafty and colourful day and until next time, Michelle 🙂
