Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello, crafters! Rick here with another exciting edition of Craftsman’s Corner on the WOW! Embossing Powder Blog. Today, I’m sharing a vibrant and versatile project that’s sure to spark your creativity. We’ll be using the fabulous WOW Fab Foils in Deepest Darkest Crimson and the Love & Hugs Foilers to create not just one, but two beautiful cards. If you enjoy getting the most out of your crafting supplies, you’re going to love this technique!
Double the Fun: Creating Two Stunning Cards with WOW Fab Foils
Foiling adds such a beautiful, luxurious touch to any card, and WOW! Fab Foils make it so easy and fun. The Deepest Darkest Crimson Fab Foils are particularly striking, providing a rich and vibrant finish. Coupled with the Love & Hugs Foilers, they make the perfect pair for creating cards that are both elegant and eye-catching.
- Step 1: Preparing the Foiled Panel
- To start, I selected a Love & Hugs Foilers background panel with a charming polka dot design. I love how versatile this pattern is—perfect for various occasions. I placed a piece of the Deepest Darkest Crimson Fab Foil over the panel, shiny side up, and ran it through my laminator. A quick tip: make sure your laminator is well-heated for the best results. After running the panel through, I let it cool completely before peeling off the foil backing, revealing a beautifully foiled design.
- Step 2: Die Cutting the Sentiment
- Next, I used a large sentiment die from my stash to cut out the word “Hi” from the center of the foiled panel. I also cut the same sentiment from some white cardstock and black cardstock (both from my stash). It’s essential to keep all the pieces, as we’ll use both the positive and negative parts for our cards. I love using big, bold sentiments like this because they create a fantastic focal point.
- Step 3: Assembling the First Card
- For the first card, I focused on creating a bold, clean look. I trimmed the foiled panel and a piece of black cardstock to 4″ x 5 1/4″ (10.2 cm x 13.3 cm). On a card base measuring 4 1/4″ x 11″ (10.8 cm x 27.9 cm) scored in half, I adhered the black cardstock panel. Before attaching it, I added a bit of gold paste (from my stash) to the black cardstock with my finger, giving it a subtle shimmer. This adds an extra layer of interest and elegance to the card.
- Then, I inlaid the foiled “Hi” sentiment into the negative space left by the die-cut. This technique gives the card a seamless, polished look. It’s a simple step that makes a big difference, ensuring the sentiment is perfectly aligned and highlighted against the dark background.
- Step 4: Assembling the Second Card
- For the second card, I wanted to play with layers and dimension. Using the leftover positive die-cut “Hi” from the foiled panel, I adhered it slightly offset onto the white cardstock die-cut. This creates a shadow effect, making the sentiment pop. I then attached this to another card base of the same size.
- To finish this card, I used a leftover sentiment strip from the Love & Hugs Foilers, foiled with Peruvian Gold Fab Foils. I trimmed it down to include the word “you” and adhered it below the “Hi” using foam tape for added dimension. The completed sentiment reads “Hi You,” perfect for a cheerful, friendly greeting.
Final Touches and Pro Tips
To complete the second card, I added a touch of foam tape behind the foiled sentiment for extra dimension. I always recommend using a good, strong adhesive to ensure everything stays in place, especially with dimensional elements.
A pro tip for working with foils: Always use a clean, dust-free work surface and handle your foiled pieces with care to avoid fingerprints or smudges. And remember, if your foil doesn’t transfer perfectly, don’t worry—small imperfections can add a unique, handmade charm to your project!
I hope you enjoyed this project and feel inspired to create your own two-for-one cards using WOW! Fab Foils. It’s a fantastic way to maximize your supplies and experiment with different techniques and layouts. I can’t wait to see what you all create!
