Back To Basics: Fab Foil

(I created three cards with the foiled pieces that I made in today’s video tutorial, and I have photos, details and supplies for each one further down this post.)

For these cards, I used a sentiment which I designed in Silhouette Studio, then printed out using my Laser printer. It’s a very specific, and niche, sentiment that my lovely Mother-in-Law sent me to put on some cards for her Oncologist team. 💖

There is so much potential in this technique, but first, let’s start with the Basics.

Warm Toned Florals

1. Once foiled, cut the sentiment with a circle die. Colour with Apricot ink from Catherine Pooler, just taking the ink pad directly to the cardstock for ease & sheer speed! Set aside to dry.
2. Run a panel of Neenah 80lb through in a geometric 3d embossing folder (the one I used id out of stock, but I’ll link a similar one below.) Trim down to 4in x 5.25in and add to an a2 panel of Heffy Doodle Butterscotch cardstock and add your dry embossed panel with foam adhesive for dimension.
3. Die cut various Spellbinders’ flowers & foliage from more Heffy Doodle coloured cardstock, add extra detail and shadows with coordinating colours of Copic Markers. Adhere any layered flowers together with liquid glue.
4. Add your sentiment, flowers and foliage onto the card with foam adhesive.
5. Embellish with golden studs.

Greys & Gold

1. For this one, cut & colour the sentiment with Pebble Ink and set aside.
2. Stamp the Bold Foliage Background stamp from WOW with that same Pebble ink, onto cream cardstock. (I can’t remember the brand sorry, it was just in my stash.) We aren’t aiming for a perfect image here, so I just laid my stamp on my glass mat, inked it up then laid the cardstock down on top, smoothing gently to ensure even pressure.
3. Cut to 3.75in x 5in and wrap Gold thread around several times to get the look you’d like, securing it from the back with strong double sided adhesive. Now add onto an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb with foam adhesive.
4. Add your sentiment on with more foam adhesive.

Abstract Ombre Reverse Foiled

1. Take the negative foil left from one of your sentiments (this just means the foil that is still on the carrier sheet when you peel & reveal.), place it pretty side up on of our Solid Fab Foiler panels & add a small piece of low tack tape to keep it in place. Run through your heated laminator. (Don’t forget to peel the now empty carrier sheet!) Die cut with a circle die.
2. Stamp our Abstract Triangles background stamp with Versafine Onyx Black ink, which takes a little longer to dry. Pour Polished Gold Super Fine over the stamping and use a dry brush to knock some of the powder off to give a distressed look. Heat and set aside to dry.
3. Swipe a trio of CP inks across the panel in stripes with the lightest at the top. Overlap each one for a really easy ombre transition.
4. Cut down to 4in x 5.25in and add to an a2 panel of Neenah 80lb with foam adhesive, before adding the sentiment on more foam adhesive. Trim the portion of the sentiment that is overhanging the edge.
