Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello! I’m Christine and today we’re Hot Foiling! I don’t play with Hot Foiling nearly as much as I should but every time I do I’m always wowed by the results and wonder why I don’t do it more often! However I wanted to do something a little different and start with a beautiful stenciled background using the Hero Arts Lotus Field Layering Stencils then add Hot Foiling on top, so if you like the idea of that keep reading, or check out my video tutorial! Step By Step Tutorial
- Take a piece of A5 white card and use a variety of Distress Inks with a detail ink blending brush to create your layered lotus field stencilled background.
- Select two silver effect Hot Foils from Wow, and decide which one you want to use on the background and which one you want for the sentiments.
- You’ll also want to pick your Hot Foil Plates/Glimmer Plates/Betterpress Plates too… You’ll need a sentiment, and ones that have coordinating dies are brilliant. Then you want a design for the background too, for subtle foiling pick a fine design, for a bolder look pick a plate with lots of foiling surface area!
- Foil your sentiments onto a piece of white card and die-cut with the coordinating dies. The foiling sandwich for this is generally, foil plate onto hot surface of your chosen machine, hot foil with pretty side facing the foiling plate, then white card on top.
- To add the foiling to a specific area on your stencilled background, decided where you want it to go, then add your foil pretty side up onto your stencilled card, place the hot foil plate pattern side down over the piece of hot foil and use some repositionable tape to hold everything in place. Carefully flip this over as you add it to your hot foiling machine so the foil plate is in contact with the hot surface.
- Once you’re happy with your foiling, trim your background down to 10 x 13 cm and add this to a top folding 10.5 x 13.5 cm white card blank.
- Finally add your chosen hot foiled sentiment to your finished panel using 3D foam, depending on the foil plate that you have chosen, you might want to add a detailed die-cut behind your sentiment (see finished cards for inspiration).
