Hot Foiling on Heat Embossing – explore embossing with jayne

I am so happy that sweater weather is finally here, and I’m throwing myself fully into Halloween today with these two spooky-but-cute hot foiled cards! I’ve been wondering for a while whether it was possible to hot foil over heat embossing, so that’s exactly what I’m trying in today’s video, with varied results! Check it out here:

I used the beautiful Magenta Gloss hot foil over two different powders, one ultra glossy and smooth (Primary Ebony), the other full of texture and shine (Black Glint). Take a look at how they turned out – which is your favourite?

Instructions: hot foiling on heat embossing

  • Heat emboss a card panel in your chosen colour(s).
  • Following the settings for your hot foil machine, add your hot foil plate. Cut a piece of Wow Hot Foil big enough to cover your foil plate, and place it pretty side down. Add the heat embossed card panel over the top, also pretty side down.
  • Add the appropriate shims and run the hot foil plate through your die-cutting machine.
  • Peel back the foil to reveal beautiful, indented foiling!
  • For card one, trim the foiled panel diagonally across the top edge, then add to a black card base. Place a strip of double-sided tape at the join between the two, cover with embossing powder or glitter, then heat set.
  • Die-cut a word sentiment and shadow from black card. Lightly press the word die into your embossing ink pad, cover with embossing powder or glitter, then heat set. Add to the shadow die with liquid glue, then add the sentiment to the card with foam tape.
  • Die-cut some ghosts from adhesive vellum, draw on faces, and adhere to the card.
  • For card 2, stamp, colour and fussy cut three ghosts. I used OLO markers in the following colours:
    • Purples: V0.1, V0.3, V0.4
    • Greys: N9, N7, N5
    • Browns: OR 4.7, OR4.4, O7.5, O7.7
  • Stamp and fussy cut the sentiment. Add this and the ghosts with foam squares.
  • Finish by adding some sequins or gems in co-ordinating colours, then using foam tape to adhere the finished panel to a black card base.

Jayne Vaughan

Hey! I’m Jayne, or you may know me as Card Days’ Night!

I live in Chester, UK, with my husband and two young daughters, and I work as a travel lawyer – so life is pretty full on! When I’m not busy with work, kids and family life, I love nothing more than spending time in my craft room. Cardmaking is my passion but I also love planning, memory keeping and sewing.

I love to explore new places, but I’m always happiest when I’m home!
