Making a Wreath With a Gorgeous Autumnal colour palette

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey crafty people! 🍂 It’s Tasha here with a brand-new tutorial, and today I’m diving into my absolute favourite season — Autumn!
In this video, I’m sharing how I created a rich and dimensional wreath card using a gorgeous Autumnal colour palette inspired by the Thankful Autumn Category on the WOW website. We’re talking layers of embossing powders, textured Sparkles, organic wooden-looking wreaths, and lots of mindful die-cut assembling.

If you love warm tones, seasonal cards, embossing textures, or building detailed floral arrangements, you’re going to enjoy this one! I’ll walk you through my process step-by-step, sharing tips for heat embossing on coloured cardstock, mixing powders for natural effects, and building full, dimensional clusters without losing your mind (or your die cuts).

Creating an Autumnal Wreath

To prep for my crafty session, I smooshed my WOW ink pad onto pieces of WOW cardstock, covering one with each of the embossing powder colours that I selected. Then, heat-setting them thoroughly from behind.
I also created 2nd panels in Metalline Flame and Chocolate Caramel Pearl on dark brown cardstock too. (These powders look completely different on this background, giving us a bigger palette to work with!)
I grabbed a panel that I made earlier using Gold Gloss HOT Foil and a Solid Foil Plate to add a luxe accent for one of the cards.

Using the embossed panels, Gold Gloss foiled panel and some brown & green cardstock, I die-cut a heap of small leaves, flowers and filler pieces using the Pretty Wreath Die Set from Sizzix. I always cut more than I think I will need, and I had enough to build my wreath and have spare bits for a second card too.

Creating My Card

  1. I trimmed and prepared my background panels, including a dark brown A2 base and a decorative Stitched Argyle die-cut panel from Neenah 80lb.
I trimmed the die-cut to the faux-stitching border line, so that a border showed when layered, then glued the die-cut panel centrally onto the brown A2 panel with liquid glue.
  2. I die-cut two wreath hoops from more WOW Cardstock.
To achieve an organic, wooden look, I inked both hoops with embossing ink and sprinkled a combination of Crusty Copper, Chocolate Caramel Pearl and Mud Pie, heating between layers for rich, varied coverage.
  3. I stacked flower layers to add depth, using a jewel picker and reverse-action tweezers to dot glue and hold layers offset while they dried. It’s totally up to your preference, but for myself, I prefer some dimension, so whilst small pieces were left flat; larger florals get stacked to create focal interest.
  4. I adhered one wreath hoop to the centre of my die-cut background using small dots of liquid glue, leaving plenty of unglued areas so I could tuck in more pieces.
  5. The second wreath hoop was cut up to add extra bits and to fill gaps, again not gluing down the entire area, so I could weave leaves and flowers in and out of the hoop so the arrangement felt natural.
  6. To add all of the extra elements to my wreath, I worked from largest elements to smallest, trimming pieces where needed so they peeked from behind rather than crowding the front. I also concentrated my pieces to two distinct arrangements, leaving plenty of the hoop branches free; I intentionally created a large cluster roughly between 1–7 o’clock and a smaller cluster around 9 o’clock to form a pleasing imbalance (but not chaotic).
  7. I embossed an Autumn sentiment in Polished Gold, die-cut it and popped it up using two layers of foam adhesive so the sentiment sat slightly above the floral cluster.
  8. Lastly, I finished the design with some Gold sequins, scattered across the design.

Getting a Cheeky Second Card Too!

  1. I cut the same background die, leaving it whole this time and layered onto dark green cardstock.
  2. I cut circles of Heavyweight Vellum + Mirror Gold Cardstock layering these on top of each other and then added straight to my background with a double layer of foam adhesive.
  3. I adhered a simpler, smaller arrangement of floral & foliage, as well as another sentiment embossed in Polished Gold. Whilst I wanted it to be simple, I did slip a couple of extra elements to the other side of my sentiment for balance.
  4. Finally, embellishing with more Gold Sequins.
