Sparkling Christmas Thank You Card with WOW! Embossing Powders

Getting Started: Supplies and Materials

Before we dive in, let’s gather our supplies. For this project, we’re highlighting a variety of WOW! products:

We’ll also use a die-cut holly branch (from my stash), heavy-weight cardstock, a laminator, foam tape, liquid adhesive, black thread (from my stash), and a gold gel pen (from my stash).

  1. Step 1: Foiling the Background and Sentiments. Let’s start by creating a beautiful foiled background. I chose a sheet from the WOW! Love & Hugs Fab Foilers collection and paired it with the WOW! Peruvian Gold Fab Foil. Running this through my laminator brought a gorgeous, shimmering gold finish to the background. It’s always exciting to see the reveal after peeling away the foil!
  2. Next, I did the same with a sheet of sentiments from the Love & Hugs Fab Foilers, using the Peruvian Gold Fab Foil. The foil adhered perfectly, leaving a stunning gold sentiment ready to be cut and used later. A quick pro tip: let your foiled pieces cool completely before handling them to avoid any smudges. Just like this 🙂
  3. Step 2: Die-Cutting and Embossing. For the focal elements, I die-cut two holly branches from heavy-weight cardstock (from my stash). This gave me plenty of pieces to work with, including some extra berries. Using WOW!’s New Fruit Puffs Quads, I covered the berries with Watermelon Puff and the leaves with Cucumber Puff. The soft, textured finish these powders provide is just delightful.
  4. For the branches, I opted for a mix from the WOW! Citrus Quads and WOW! Building Blocks QuadsKiwi Gold and Brick added a lovely contrast, making the branches pop without overpowering the other elements. Be sure to heat set each color separately to keep them distinct and vibrant.
  5. Step 3: Assembling the Card. With all the pieces ready, it’s time to assemble the card. I attached the foiled background to a green A2 card base (or a 14.9 cm x 21 cm card base for my UK Friends) using 2mm foam tape. This added a bit of dimension and made the card feel more polished. I then adhered the embossed holly branches to the top and bottom of the card front using liquid adhesive.
  6. To add a little more texture, I created a small nest with black thread and placed it behind a cut-out foiled sentiment from the Love & Hugs Fab Foilers. I attached this to the card front with 1mm foam tape, ensuring it stood out just enough.
  7. Step 4: Adding Final Touches
  8. For a finishing touch, I used a gold gel pen to outline the edges of the card front. This subtle detail ties everything together and adds a polished, cohesive look. It’s these little touches that can really elevate a card, making it feel extra special.

Pro Tips for a Flawless Finish

Dimension and Texture: Foam tape is perfect for adding dimension, giving your card a more professional finish.

Foil First, Handle Later: Always let your foiled pieces cool completely to prevent smudging.

Separate Embossing: When using multiple embossing powders, heat set each one individually for clean, defined colors.

This sparkling Christmas thank you card showcases how WOW! Embossing Powders and Fab Foils can transform your holiday projects. I hope this tutorial inspires you to experiment with these fantastic products and add a touch of shimmer to your creations. Remember, the joy of crafting comes from trying new techniques and making each project your own.
