Spotlight on the Sentiment

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey crafty friends…..it’s Michelle back with you with a new colour combination. This week I decided to use the new Duo A Night on the Town. The sparkle in these powders is absolutely gorgeous and because they also have gold in them, I decided to use a bit of gold as well. I love all of the texture I got and the slightly metallic look to them. Shall we get started and I’ll give you all the sparkly details on how I put the spotlight on the sentiment!

Spotlight on the Sentiment

  1. For the background I did a kind of ombré wash using 2 different magical powders from Lindys Gang, choosing colours that will compliment the powders. I used a piece of watercolour paper, cut to 4.25×5.5″. Once it was dry, I trimmed it down 1/4″ on all 4 sides. Once dry, I ran the embossing ink pad along all 4 sides of the watercolour paper and then added Metallic Rich Gold embossing powder and then heat it to set the powders.
  2. I cut the sentiment from a background made previously that had been ran through an embossing folder, so it has some texture to it. I inked up the diecut with embossing ink and then added Sparkling Sunset Powder to the top half of it and Glass of Fizz on the bottom of it. I took a small paintbrush to break up the middle point where the 2 powders meet and soften it to blend them abit.
  3. Because they are powders with sparkle in them, you want to heat from underneath, so as not to blow the glitter around. However it would be hard to heat the diecut from under it, without blowing it around especially on the very narrow parts of the sentiment, so I got a piece of parchment paper and sandwiched my diecut inside it. I was then able to heat the powders from above with the help of the parchment, as the powders are protected but will still allow the heat to melt the powders.
  4. While the embossing powders were still hot, I added more powders to it, including some of the same metallic gold used earlier for the background in the middle. I then took the paintbrush again and soften the harsh edges of the powders. I added it between the parchment paper and heated it again.
  5. I continued this 1 more time. As the powders were melting in between the parchment paper, some of it melted and stuck to the paper abit, picking some of it up and adding some awesome texture to the heat embossing.
  6. A second hello was cut from black cardstock and added behind it, as a shadow. This was added to the background and the smaller sub-sentiment was added from the Fab Foilers – Sweet Sentiments and adhered using foam squares. A few gold iridescent pearls finished it off.

Thank you so much for stopping by today for a new and fabulous colour combo featuring one of the latest releases. Definitely try this technique using the parchment paper for diecuts, as it gives some amazing texture to it, has a bit of an imperfect look to it and also protects the glitter from flying all over. Thanks again and I wish you all the most wonderful and colourful day! Until next time 🙂
