Stencil paste heat embossing with Ethereal meadows powders

handmade card featuring heat embossed stencil paste

Have you ever tried adding your embossing powders to stencil paste or texture paste? In my YouTube video today, I’m doing just that, with the brand new embossing powders from the Ethereal Meadows release.

In this blog post, I’ll give you simple step-by-step instructions to create a raised, stencil paste pattern featuring your favourite emnossing powders, but to see it in action, please do join me over on YouTube!

What You’ll Need

  • Stencil paste or texture paste
  • A spatula or something else to spread the paste (eg, an old library card!)
  • A stencil
  • Your choice of embossing powders
  • Heat tool
  • Your choice of die cut / sentiment / embellishment to finish
  • stencil paste card with heat embossing
  • handmade card featuring heat embossed stencil paste
  • stencil paste heat embossed card

Instructions: Stencil paste card

  1. Secure an A2 card panel to the reverse of the stencil using low tack tape.
  2. Remove some stencil paste from the jar with a spatula, and spread across the surface of the stencil, ensuring that the paste goes into each area of the stencil. Repeat until fully covered, then scrape away any excess and place back in the jar.
  3. Remove stencil, and immediately clean the stencil, spatula and your work area with clean water (it will be impossible to remove once dried!).
  4. Take your first embossing powder and sprinkle over a few areas of the stencil paste. Using some scrap paper, quickly flip the card panel over, catching any excess powder in the scrap paper – you can add this back to your jar. Repeat with your other colours of embossing powder, until the entire stencilled pattern is covered.
  5. Using the lowest setting on your heat gun, gently heat set the powders, being careful to keep the heat source moving around so as not to burn any area, but allowing the powder to heat set and the stencil paste to dry.
  6. Trim the panel to 5 x 3.75″ and add to an A2 white card base.
  7. Add your chosen sentiment – I used the a bold sentiment from Concord & 9th (supply list below), die-cutting the shadow die and word dies in white, and then adding Wisteria Wonder embossing powder to the word die, to co-ordinate with the background.
  8. Adhere the die-cut to the card panel with foam tape.
  9. (Optional) Add some co-ordinating sequins or embellishments to finish.

Hey! I’m Jayne, or you may know me as Card Days’ Night!

I live in Chester, UK, with my husband and two young daughters, and I work as a travel lawyer – so life is pretty full on! When I’m not busy with work, kids and family life, I love nothing more than spending time in my craft room. Cardmaking is my passion but I also love planning, memory keeping and sewing.

I love to explore new places, but I’m always happiest when I’m home!
