Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey friends……it’s Michelle back with a new way to use your hot foils, that does not use a hot foil machine. Yup…it is possible to use hot foils without the use of a hot foil machine! It is super easy and only requires one other supply, besides your stamps and foils, of course. Let’s get started and I’ll show you how to Use Hot Foils on Stamped Images Made Easy.
Using Hot Foils on Stamped Images Made Easy
- Create your background. I used the paper towels from a previous metallic painted background. There was simply too much gorgeous gold and silver paint on them to waste. I spritzed water on the paper towels, where the extra metallic paints were. Then, I smooshed my watercolour cardstock on it. Continue this until you are happy with the look. It has a marble look to it and the metallic shine is amazing! Set it aside to dry.
- Cut out a piece of hot foil in each desired colour large enough to cover your stamped images.
- Stamp your desired images on white cardstock using your embossing ink pad. Sprinkle on WOW! Bonding Powder and melt with your heat embossing tool. Heat the images just until the powder is set.
- Right after each image is heat set, apply your piece of hot foil and press down to adhere the foil. Allow it to cool slightly and peel back the foil. Repeat this for all of your embossed images.
- Use a coordinating die or hand cut out the images. Although I have the coordinating die for my trees, it left too much of a white border around the image. So, I fussy cut out the trees as it was fairly straightforward.
- Run along each tree edge with a black Sharpie. This will give the edges a bit of definition.
- Once dried, trim the background to 3.75×5″. Use a black Sharpie to go around the edges of the ink smooshed background. This will match the trees and also give it a border. It is best to do this from the backside. This way, if the marker slips, you won’t get any marks on the front of the cardstock. Add to your A2 cardbase.
- Adhere your trees to the background using a mix of glue and foam squares. Finish it with a sentiment of your choosing and some flatback gold pearls.
This was so fun to make and I love the mix of the foils! You can give a gorgeous foiled shine and finish to stamped images easily using the Bonding Powder! This was only my second time trying the bonding powder and I love the effect you get with it! Thank you so much for joining me today and I hope I have helped to inspire you. I wish you all a crafty and colourful day! Until next time 🙂

Michelle Burnier
Hello…..my name is Michelle and I’m a Canadian girl living in the beautiful countryside of Switzerland with my Swiss husband and 2 cats. I love all things crafty, shiny and glittery! Besides my love for papercrafting, I also enjoy crocheting and making felt flowers.
My papercrafting journey began about 20 years ago when I walked into my little local stamp and scrapbooking store to make a scrapbook album for my parents’ 20th wedding anniversary. I eventually moved on to cardmaking and haven’t looked back since.
