Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hello everyone, It’s Emilie here with another background for you. Today I am sharing how you to can make a mixed media background that has a little bit of everything. There is heat embossing, ink-smooching, stencilling, and stamping. These create the layers to this background. Let’s start from the beginning.
A little bit of everything.
I began with a 8×11 piece of white cardstock and two coloured ink pads, and started ink-smooching.
INK-SMOOCHING There are a few ways you can ink-smooch so do what works for you. Choose your colours and cardstock you’d like to use, I went for orange and purple. I like to dab my ink pads onto my craft mat then spray with water. I also spray my cardstock then pounce and press it into the ink, this is what works best for me. Move your ink around by spraying more water on your cardstock. When your happy dry it off and repeat the smooching to help build up your colour. When my cardstock was fully dry I cut it in half and moved onto stencilling.
STENCILLING Place your stencil on top of your background and with a different colour ink pad blend in small areas. In some areas I went in heavy and lighter in others, this helps to give a faded look. In the corner you can see some scripted words this is from a stencil that already had ink on it from another project, I sprayed it with water then pressed it onto the cardstock, this gave a reverse impression of the stencil.
STAMPING Ink up your stamp, and rather than putting it on a stamp block, just hold it and curl it a little, then press it over the stencilling and any other areas you want your stamping to be. As you can see, this doesn’t give a clean image, but that’s fine. This helps it to all blend together and create another layer to the background.
After I did my stamping I didn’t like the overall look of my background, so instead of starting all over again I turned my background the other way round and instantly loved it! TOP TIP: If you don’t like the look of your background, try looking at it from a different angle.
EMBOSSING POWDER To give your background extra texture and detail, use your embossing pen and embossing powder. The embossing powder I used was Dappled Peach from the Dappled Effects Trio.
FOCAL POINT For this, I went with a hibiscus flower, which is a layering stamp. I added clear embossing powder to the outline and Dappled Peach to the centre of the flower. I then die cut out my focal point and adhered it to the background.
Lastly I cut my background down to 5×7 and glued it to a card base, choose a sentiment and my card was finished.
Thanks for stopping by.
