Hi WOW! friends and welcome back! It’s Michelle back with you and we are going to be doing a fun marbled heart using embossing powders. This is a technique that is lots of fun and brings that WOW! factor that we all love from WOW! Embossing. For my project today, I was inspired by the products in the Valentine’s Day Collection. Who wouldn’t love a gorgeous heart filled with rich shades of red, pink and gold? Let’s get started and I’ll show you how easy it is to create a Marbled Look with Embossing Powders.

  • Full photo of card featuring a marbled heart using embossing powders.

Create the Background

  • Place your stencil over a piece of white cardstock, cut to 4.25″x 5.5″ and adhere with tape. Go direct to your stencil with your embossing ink pad, fully covering it with the ink.
  • Remove the stencil and sprinkle on Clear Matt Dull embossing powder. Heat the powder with your heat tool until it is shiny. As it cools down the shine will disappear and you will be left with a matt look to your embossing.
  • I chose this powder because I want the look and texture achieved with heat embossing. However, it should take a backseat to the focal point.
  • Cut down to 3.5″x 4.75″.

Creating the Marbled Heart

  • Pick a combination of 3 or more embossing powders. I used Opaque Bright White Ultra High, Fluorescent Pink, Primary Apple Red, Metallic Gold Rich Ultra High and Clear Gloss.
  • To create the marbling, you need to have at least 1 ultra high embossing powder in your chosen palette. The granules are larger than regular or fine embossing powders. This size difference moves the powders around when melted, giving the marbled look.
  • Cut out a heart from white card stock.
  • Cover the heart with embossing ink by ink smooshing with your embossing ink pad. Sprinkle on your powders randomly and be sure to get the ultra high powder evenly, but randomly sprinkled on.
  • Heat the powders from below. As the ultra high powders are larger granules, they will blow away if hit directly with the heat tool. Add more powders as needed while you heat them. Pay special attention to the ultra high powders. Add more if they aren’t moving around as much as you’d like.
  • A little tip….I burnt the card stock underneath from the heat. Be sure to keep your heat tool moving around. Do not let it rest in one spot. The powders will also be very hot, please be careful not to get burned.
  • Once they start to melt, move the heat tool to above. This will allow you to move the powders around. Continue adding more powders and moving them around until you achieve your desired look.
  • Once it has cooled, cover it again with embossing ink and sprinkle on clear gloss. Heat that and repeat 3 or 4 times, to create a beautiful shine and enameled look to it.

Assemble the Card

  • Hot foil your sentiment using Salmon Pink hot foil from WOW! and cut out using a coordinating die or paper trimmer.
  • Adhere the marbled heart to your heart embossed background. Cut off the excess with a sharp pair of scissors and add this to your A2 cardbase.
  • Add some small foam squares the back of your sentiment and adhere this over the heart.
  • Finish with a few sequins.

I love how some of the powders appear to float in the heart. The depth you achieve with this technique is impressive and so fun! Thank you so much for joining me today and I hope that I have helped to inspire you! Oh and don’t forget to head on over and shop the entire Valentine’s Day Collection on promo right now. Hello…..my name is Michelle and I’m a Canadian girl living in the beautiful countryside of Switzerland with my Swiss husband and 2 cats. I love all things crafty, shiny and glittery! Besides my love for papercrafting, I also enjoy crocheting and making felt flowers.

My papercrafting journey began about 20 years ago when I walked into my little local stamp and scrapbooking store to make a scrapbook album for my parents’ 20th wedding anniversary. I eventually moved on to cardmaking and haven’t looked back since.
