The perfect Autumn Flutter

Welcome to WOW! Embossing Powder!

Hey WOW! friends…..it’s Michelle back today with a colour combination that is perfect for Autumn! Did you know that a group of butterflies is called a flutter? It really is the perfect name for them, as they flutter their wings when they fly! Well today I have the perfect flutter of Autumn butterflies, using a gorgeous colour combination of embossing powders. Let’s get started shall we and I’ll show you how I created The Perfect Autumn Flutter.

The Perfect Autumn Flutter

  1. To start I choose my colour palette, which consists of Primary Royal Purple, Sparkling Sunset, In the Navy and Earthtone Honey.
  2. Cut a piece of white cardstock to 4.25×5.5″.
  3. Place stencil 1 on your cardstock and adhere with some tape on the back of it. Go direct with the embossing ink pad to your stencil and ensure you get a good and even coverage on the cardstock. Be sure to get in all the little nooks and crannies, so it is fully covered in ink.
  4. Sprinkle on the Honey embossing powder on the top half of the butterflies. Tap off the excess powder and add it back to your jar of powder. On the bottom half of the cardstock, sprinkle on the Royal Purple powder. Heat up your heat embossing tool for a good 30 secs before going to your paper, to ensure it is very hot. Making sure it is heated up really good will help to prevent any potential warping of the paper from the heat, seeing as the cardstock will be heat embossed twice.
  5. Add stencil #2 to the cardstock and adhere with tape on the back. As in the previous step, go direct with the ink pad to the stencil and ensure a full and even coverage of the ink on the cardstock. Remove the stencil and sprinkle on In the Navy powder on the top half (the other half of the butterflies will have the Honey powder) of the cardstock. Tap off the excess powder and add Sparkling Sunset powder to the lower half of the cardstock.
  6. Heat up your embossing tool and emboss the second set of butterflies.
  7. Do some very light ink blending using a blue ink, concentrating on the outside of the cardstock. I’m unsure of what colur I used, as it was just the leftover ink on my brush from previous ink blending lol. Using a paper towel or a cloth, wipe off any ink that may be sitting on top of the embossed butterflies from the ink blending. Trim down this piece to 4×5.25″.
  8. Add the background piece to an ivory cardbase using liquid adhesive. Add your sentiment using some foam tape for dimension.

I love this colour palette….it just screams Autumn to me! This is one of my favourite techniques, using stencils with embossing powders. It comes together so quick and easily, but always looks fabulous! I love the one butterfly that has all 4 of the embossing powders on it! What colours make you think of Autumn? Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope that I have helped to inspire you in some way and I wish you all the most wonderful and colourful day! Until next time 🙂

Hello…..my name is Michelle and I’m a Canadian girl living in the beautiful countryside of Switzerland with my Swiss husband and 2 cats. I love all things crafty, shiny and glittery! Besides my love for papercrafting, I also enjoy crocheting and making felt flowers.

My papercrafting journey began about 20 years ago when I walked into my little local stamp and scrapbooking store to make a scrapbook album for my parents’ 20th wedding anniversary. I eventually moved on to cardmaking and haven’t looked back since.
